Master class

The following Master Class courses will be offered during the music festival Við Djúpið June 18 - 23. Note that registration is done through the website of the festival Við Djúpið.

Master class in guitar playing with Pétur Jónasson

Organization: Taught in Ísafjörður, June 18th - 22nd 2009. 4 hrs. a day
Location: Edinborg House Cultural Centre
Practice facilities: Practice facilities are both in the Edinborg House Cultural Centre and in the Ísafjörður Music School.
Course Assessment: Participation
Goal of the course: The goal of this course is to give students the opportunity to get instructions and guidance from one of the most talented artists in his field in a new environment, outside of school hours.
Course description: Pétur Jónasson is one of Iceland's most talented musicians in his field and in interplay with the nature in the Westfjords and one of the best concert facilities in Iceland students get the opportunity to hone their musical skills. The course is a conventional master class course where students bring previously prepared music piece and review it with the instructor.
Teaching methods: Master Class, private tutoring in group sessions.

Piano master class course, with Vovka Stefán Ashkenazy

Organization: Taught in Ísafjörður, June 19th - 22rd 2009. 4 hrs. a day.
Location: Ísafjörður Music School
Practice facilities: Practice facilities are in private classrooms in the Ísafjörður Music School.
Instruments: Ísafjörður Music School has a Steinway concert piano as well as smaller pianos in every classroom.

Goal of the course: The goal of this course is to give students the opportunity to get instructions and guidance from one of the most talented artists in his field in a new environment, outside of school hours.
Course description: Vovka Stefán Ashkenazy is known to all as a respected pianist, as well as a renowned piano teacher. The course, which is taught as a conventional master class, gives students an opportunity to get guidance from Ashkenazy in one of the best concert facilities in Iceland. The course is held as part of the music festival and summer courses Við Djúpið where students get the chance to experience the nature of the Westfjords as well as concerts alongside the guidance from the instructor.

Master class course in compositions, with Bent Sørensen

Organization: Taugt in Ísafjörður, June 19th - 23rd 2009. 4 hrs.
Course Assessment: Participation
Goal of the course: The goal of this course is to give students the opportunity to get instructions and guidance in composing from this distinguished contemporary composer.
Course description: The course will be taught as a master class, but instead of instruments, the main emphasis will be on composing and the structure of compositions. The Danish composer will also be this year's honorary guest of the music festival and summer courses Við djúpið. He is one of the most respected contemporary composers and is primus inter pares/leading figure in his home country. Students will get guidance for their own compositions as well as explanations regarding the composers own compositions.
