The master's program in coastal and marine management is an interdisciplinary program in with an emphasis on northern regions. Students will learn various methods for managing marine and coastal areas based on economic, social and environmental principles. The content of the program is in accordance with the EU focus on coastal zones.

Students will complete 7 core courses and 8 electives. The core courses will be taught at the beginning of the program and form the basis for subsequent courses. The program will emphasize management; this is a novelty in the exploitation of the environment and natural resources in Iceland. Each course will involve an interdisciplinary approach; this provides closer connections among the courses for the students. Emphasis will be placed on solving real problems; the program is intended to be practical. Such solutions are often based on the principles of sustainable development. The core consists of the following subjects: biology, ecology, chemistry, geology, marine science, geophysics, geography, engineering, sociology, ethics, anthropology, law, political science, economics and planning.

Below you can find an overview of all courses as well as an plan of instruction.
